  • Claimed by the Cyborg by Cara Bristol now available in a galaxy near you! #SFR

    unnamed

    Ebook and paperback!

I’m thrilled to announce the release of another Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance! Like the others, Claimed by the Cyborg is a standalone read. However, It’s a little different…it is the most romantic of all the Cy-Ops Sci-fi romances. Why? In the others, adventure brings the hero and heroine together and in facing danger together, they fall in love. In Claimed by the Cyborg, hero March and heroine Jules/Julietta are former lovers. Their reunion and rekindling of their love draws the danger.

    The blurb!

March Fellows assumed he had all the time in the galaxy to pursue a relationship with Jules, an alien exchange student from Xenia, until she vanished without a trace. After years of searching, he finds his lost love on the eve of her arranged marriage.

The daughter of the Xenian emperor, Julietta, never meant to fall in love with a Terran man while visiting Earth. Leaving to fulfill her responsibilities on her home planet opened up a hole in her heart that could never be filled. When March, now a cyborg, unexpectedly shows up just before she is to be bonded, she struggles to find the courage to turn him away a second time and follow through with her duty.

Before she can act, the lovers are thrust into a political conspiracy that threatens the Xenian empire and their lives.

An excerpt from Claimed by the Cyborg!

(It’s the eve of Julietta’s bonding to a man she’s never met. Her completed bonding tunic has arrived and her sister Marji urges her to try it on)

Marji’s eyes were wide. “You don’t want to see what it looks like? Come, on! I’ll help you.” She scooted off the bed. “Try it on, please?”

“All right,” she capitulated. The tailors had done an excellent job, but it wouldn’t hurt to verify the garment fit—and it would make Marji happy. At only sixteen solar cycles, her younger sister’s bonding wouldn’t occur for several years. Like most girls her age, she talked about her future ceremony constantly, planning what she would wear, who would attend—and wondering who her mate would be.

Julietta stripped down to her panties and a lacy bra. She’d adopted Terran undergarments when she’d attended school off planet. For the bonding ceremony—and thereafter for the rest of her life—she would wear the traditional one-piece Xenian undergarment. Her choice of underwear—one more thing bonding would force her to give up.
She pulled on the pantaloons sewn in the royal huber fabric. Shimmering threads of pale rose were woven throughout so that the garment sparkled. Marji undid the fastening of the shift and held it out. Julietta slipped her arms through it, and her sister did up the back.

The weight of her world rested on her shoulders.

Her sister reached for the headdress.

“That, too?” she protested, but bent at the knees so the crown could be settled on her head. Her legs threatened to buckle, but she shored up her strength and remained upright.

“You look beautiful. Just like an empress!” Marji gushed.

“How appropriate, considering,” she replied dryly.

The ceremony brought her closer to becoming the sovereign. The bonding—and production of an heir—were the only two hurdles left. Then, when her father passed the scepter upon his fifty-first solar cycle, she would rule with her consort at her side.

The last time she’d tried on the dress, the crystals hadn’t yet been sewn on. She took a few exploratory steps.
    “How does it feel?”

    Crushing. “Fine.”

    “It’s perfect!” Marji said.

Could she walk down the aisle without toppling over, without bursting into tears, without making a spectacle of herself in front of thousands?

She would have to—what choice did she have? As firstborn, she was heir apparent. Her future had been decided on the day of her birth, twenty-five solar cycles ago. “Let’s take it off now.” She lifted the crown from her head and tilted her neck from side to side in relief. Marji undid the back of the shift and removed the garment. While she hung up the tunic, Julietta donned her clothing.

“I can’t sleep, I’m so excited for you,” Marji said. “Tomorrow night, you get to see your consort! I don’t know why you never chose to see him before this. As future empress, you receive special dispensation and could have seen him if you’d wanted to. I would have jumped at the chance!” She sighed. “But, like everyone else, I won’t see my future mate until the Sha’A’la and won’t meet him until the bonding ceremony.”

“Whether I see him or not, the future will proceed as scheduled,” Julietta said.

“Father says he’s very kind. Mother says he’s supernova!” she said. “That’s means handsome.”

“I know what it means. Mother has been watching too many Terran vids.”

Marji giggled, and, despite herself, Julietta smiled.

Though she hadn’t seen Earth herself, their mother loved Terran culture and had encouraged her eldest daughter to study there and explore the wonders of the Blue Planet before fulfilling her duty. Julietta had had two glorious years of freedom, two glorious years of being “Jules,” two glorious years of being just another Terran Technical Institute student, two glorious years with a man who most definitely qualified as supernova, two glorious years to pretend the future would never come.

Claimed by the Cyborg….He lost her once, he won’t let it happen again…

Trapped with the Cyborg (Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance 4) blurb:

The only thing more dangerous than a suicide mission is falling in love…

Amanda Mansfield has faced challenges in her life: the disapproval of her critical father and the near-fatal accident that ended a promising military career and resulted in her transformation to cyborg. Now a Cyber Operations field agent, she volunteers to lead the most dangerous Cy-Ops mission ever: infiltrating enemy territory to find the secret hideaway of a terrorist mastermind. The last thing she needs is an added complication.

Like him. Sonny Masters. Her partner. A streetwise former thug turned cyber operative with a lethal grin. He can’t seem to understand she’s in charge and does not require his protection. He’s everything she dislikes—and everything her body wants.

If they can keep their hands off each other long enough to complete the mission, they might just get out alive…

Trapped with the Cyborg (Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance 4) is a standalone read.

Excerpt: In this opening scene, Sonny Masters is in bar waiting to meet up with his Cyber Operations partner when he observes and alien hitting on a blonde.

The Malodonian leaned in close to the blonde. “What’s a pretty little thing like you doing in a place like this?”

Sonny snorted into his drink. Did pickup lines like that ever work? He watched out of the corner of his eye and shamelessly eavesdropped. In the Nebula Lounge of the freewheeling Darius 4 Pleasure Resort, one could not expect privacy.

“Minding my own business.” The woman’s glare suggested the Malodonian do the same.

“How about I buy you a drink?” he persisted, unfazed by the rejection. His skin was as thick as it was blue.

“Already have one.” She raised a double shot of Cerinian brandy. Her second. Sonny’s cyborg brain had kept track—not that counting to two proved a challenge. However, one single shot of the potent alien liqueur had been known to put many a stout man under the table. This woman could hold her liquor.

She’d caught his attention the moment he’d entered the lounge. Like the Malodonian had noted, she was pretty—very pretty, but not so little. She was long limbed and toned in a way that he liked.

He might have been tempted to try his luck himself—with a better line, of course—except he had little time for R&R. He needed to meet up with Manny, his Cyber Operations partner who would debrief him on the details of the next mission.

Hover lights floating around the bar flattered the woman, turning her hair to pure gold, but the warm-toned illumination wasn’t kind to the Malodonian, whose blue skin acquired an unattractive green cast. “Why don’t I join you, then?” He planted himself next to her.

“Why don’t you not?” Without wince or wobble, she knocked back the brandy and slid off the barstool. Tall, like he’d guessed. Sonny stood six foot six. Most females barely reached his shoulders. The blonde’s head would graze his chin. A nice fit for dancing, vertical and horizontal.

“What’s the rush? Don’t run off.” The Malodonian grabbed her arm, his fingers biting into her skin.

Amusement vanished. Sonny leaped to his feet. “I believe the lady said—”

Before he could finish his sentence, she had the Malodonian on his knees, his arm wrenched at such an awkward angle Sonny almost felt sorry for the poor bastard.

“What part of leave me alone didn’t you understand?” she said in the Malodonian language.

The man’s guttural insult ended on a high note when she twisted his arm. “Get out of here.” She shoved him, sending him sprawling into a table. He swore again, his epithet translating to the C-word, and scrambled for the door.

“Impressive.” Sonny applauded—from a safe distance.

“The way I took him down?”

“That, and the way you hold your liquor.”

She scowled, but then her lips twitched in a reluctant smile that lit up her face. So she did have a sense of humor. If he had the time…well, maybe he could make some. Once he departed Darius 4, it would be a long while before he could avail himself of feminine companionship. Manny wouldn’t arrive until morning. Perhaps he and the blonde could work something out for tonight?

Tread carefully, though. He’d hate to end up on his knees the way the Malodonian had. Not that the blonde could get him there. Despite being well-toned, she couldn’t beat a cyborg’s nanocyte-enhanced brawn. The image of them naked and wrestling, vying for dominance, brought a smile to his face. He’d win, of course. But he’d allow her to think she had a chance.

    “Something amuses you?” she asked.

Leave it to a man to ruin a perfect suicide mission.

The only thing more dangerous than a suicide mission is falling in love.

In a battle to save the galaxy, falling in love isn’t part of the mission plan…

    ★★★★My Review★★★★

    Captured by the Cyborg

Ex Cy-Ops agent Dale Homme’s first love has always been his job and his spacecraft. Not necessarily in that order. When Illumina Smith lands on the desolate moon that’s home to his intergalactic chop shop, he begins to peel back the mysterious layers of her story and resume that just don’t make sense. Starting with why she’s luminous when she lies.

I loved these characters and this story so much. Dale and Illumina are my favorite couple so far! This series gets better and better.

Excerpt from Captured by the Cyborg

(In this scene hero Dale Homme is interviewing job candidates. He just met the heroine)

The woman’s head didn’t reach his shoulder. But what she lacked in stature, she compensated for with hair.

Shimmering, silvery-blonde waves of it tumbled to her hips. The platinum shade didn’t reflect light, it radiated it, almost as if the individual strands were composed of fibers of light itself. Although women could and did take chemical supplements to alter pigment at the cellular level, and platinum hair was not unusual, the combined effect of the color and shine was. Striking under the harsh artificial illumination—what would it look like in moonlight?

In a complete violation of propriety, he reached out to touch. He caught himself and snapped his hand to his side, calling upon his nanocytes to stamp out the kindling of desire. Turned on by a job candidate’s hair. This is what happened when you didn’t get laid often enough. Not entirely his fault though. He’d planned to visit the Darius 4 pleasure resort, until Lamis-Odg terrorists had destroyed the place. Under reconstruction, reopening hadn’t been scheduled yet.

He forced his attention away from her hair.

And noticed her clothing. What the hell was she wearing? Masculine, almost military-style trousers in a fabric mottled in various shades of tan led to clunky coyote-brown boots. A loose-fitting jacket in the same variegated pattern covered her top half. Fatigues—but from what century? The twenty-first maybe? Where had she acquired the getup?

“Mr. Homme?” Gray eyes met his in a direct stare. “I’m Illumina Smith. Thank you for seeing me.” Her voice tinkled like chimes blowing in a gentle wind, but the hand that seized his gripped like a steel clamp.

It’s not an arm wrestling match. He hid his amusement while noting the slenderness of her bone structure. His thumb and index finger would overlap if he were to encircle her wrist. “Come in. Have a seat.” He gestured.

She lurched with a jerky, awkward gait to the chair and sat, her posture rigid. Her robotic movement was so opposite the grace he’d expected, he ran a quick scan. No, not android. An organic, sentient life-form, but not human either.

“Your name is very unusual.” He plopped into his sensa-chair, which immediately conformed to the shape of his body and began a massage.

A tiny furrow creased her forehead. “Smith is a common Terran surname.”

If she was Terran, he was a six-eyed, webbed-handed Arcanian. “I meant Illumina.”Cy-Ops series

Captured by the Cyborg is third in the Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance series but is written to be read as a stand-alone novella.

Don’t miss the other books in the series!

For this trip, he was a glorified FedEx deliveryman. The cargo shuttle lacked the amenities of the passenger ship still under construction, in which Janson would deliver his first patrons in a few short months. The first ship was buried under the reservation. No six-by-six foot bubble viewing windows or luxurious lounge chairs for this ride. The shuttle was stripped down to the necessities, all lash points, cargo straps, and lockers. Tess and Cole were on board the floating Blue Moon Hotel, or at least what there was of it so far. The skeleton staff, who were assembling and working out the kinks before the actual guests arrived, had already taken to calling the project the Lunatic instead. An insider joke that would make Janson piss his marketing pants if he found out.

  • #8Sunday: One pissed princess…from THE ASTRONAUT’S PRINCESS #Sexy #SciFi #Adventure

TheAstronautsPrincess_200x300Another bit from Chapter One, Episode 2 of my Cosmic Cowboys Series. Nothing worse than a pissed off princess. Poor Noah.

Enjoy a tiny excerpt from The Astronaut’s Princess

Noah sensed the tension the moment he walked through the sliding doors of the sick bay. The doors closed behind him with a whoosh, seemingly sucking the oxygen from the room as they sealed. The bay was in chaos. Broken glass and medical instruments lay scattered across the floor. The entire glass window of the ER room lay in shards before him. He raised his eyebrows, asking the question he already knew the answer to.

    “Ela,” Dr. Alice Franklin said.

“Where is she? Is she injured?”

Dr. Franklin shook her head and motioned to the only closed door. “No, she’s fine. Pissed, but fine.”

  • #8Sunday: Not his circus. Not his monkeys…from THE ASTRONAUT’S PRINCESS #Sexy #SciFi #Adventure

It’s been a while since I participated in Weekend Writing Warriors. Here’s what I’ve been working on… Episode 2 of my Cosmic Cowboys Series. Poor Noah has ten thousand problems.

Enjoy a tiny excerpt from The Astronaut’s Princess

This team tested what remained of his patience. The only saving grace was the first crew was already working on the hotel pod construction. This group? These guys wouldn’t have lasted two months in the NASA program. Noah pinched the bridge of his nose, willing the headache pounding behind his eyes to go away.

Not my circus. Not my monkeys.

    Except they were.

The door behind him opened, and Noah closed his eyes tighter, not turning. “Captain? You have a call from sick bay. It’s Ela,” the intern said.

    Of course it’s Ela.
