Ghosts of Halloweens Past

I was looking through some old photo albums and came across a few pics of my brother and I from Halloweens past. Pretty sure this one was circa 1973. Clearly, I was dressed as an old lady with quite a large booty. I think my brother was a clown.

A couple of years later, we got store bought costumes.

I’m not sure if this is me in two different masks or if we both had the exact same outfit with different masks. One is Woody Woodpecker. I’m not sure what that scary rabbit mask is or why they were both fringed cowboy outfits.

Do you recognize the characters? I’ve got nothing.

What I do remember is that EVERY SINGLE HALLOWEEN it was COLD and we had to wear heavy coats over our costumes, which completely defeated the point of having a costume. Except Mike’s clown coat above. That was wicked genius right there.

I haven’t dressed up that much as an adult until the past couple of years. Honestly, I think I’m just regressing back to my childhood. The past two years I’ve been a zombie. It’s surprising how much mileage you can get out of a good zombie outfit.

What’s your favorite costume or Halloween memory?

  1. Fun. Every October, I’ve wanted to comb through old photo albums and dredge up some costume photos, but I never seem to have the time. I think I loved my adult costumes the best.

  2. Ha, love that booty. I know, it was *always* cold on Halloween when I was a kid and there was always a huge coat to cover the costume, which made it pointless to wear it. When we lived in Oklahoma, my cousin was visiting one year and we were the Berenstein Bears. I had to be Brother Bear, which I hated. One year, I was an old lady (is that the easiest costume for a kid, or what?) and this girl who hated me in school was an old lady too. She said, “You’re just an old lady and I’m the nice grandma.” I didn’t know the word b!tch then, but if I had, I probably would have called her that. Cow.My costume was better.
