I was invited to participate in The Next Big Thing Blogfest Tour to tell you about my hopefully soon to be published Reap ‘Em & Weep. The author who invited me was Shirley McCann at http://shirleymccann.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-next-big-thing-blogfest-tour.html When you’re finished here, hop over to Shirley’s blog to read all about her Young Adult Suspense, The Scarry Inn!
If you’d like to participate, send her an email at email@example.com and we’ll be happy to link your blogsite to this one.
What is the working title of your book?
Reap ‘Em & Weep. It’s about reapers. The grim kind and their unlikely search for love while fighting evil.
Where did the idea come from for the book? I wanted to write about something a little different than the current beasties and very few writers are exploring the world of reapers.
What genre does your book fall under?
Well, for the past two years I thought I was writing paranormal romance, but recently I was told by a Harlequin editor it’s much more urban fantasy. I can live with that.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? Gosh, I’m going to say Jenson Ackles from Supernatural for Deacon. Not because he looks or even acts like my character but because he’s smokin’ hot, and I might get to meet him 🙂 For Ruth, definitely Natalie Portman because she’s funny AND spunky.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Ruth Scott thought seeing auras was a handicap until she met Deacon Walker, the Reaper sent to claim her mother. Her handicap becomes a necessary skill in her new line of work: soul reaping and demon hunting.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I am currently working on finishing my second book in the series and will then be pursuing an agent. I plan to wear out my traditional publishing options, but I am not opposed to self-publishing.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
The first draft took six months. It’s been through MANY revisions and will have more before my self-imposed May 1, 2013 deadline. I am attending the Romantic Times Convention in Kansas City May 1-5 and plan to pitch the series there.
What other novels would you compare your story to within your genre?
Think Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake series) and Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse series).
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I spent two years reading a huge variety of paranomal romance and urban fantasy novels. I read more than a hundred books. I have written several articles, blog posts and newspaper columns through the years but never a novel. Every book I read, I thought, “I can do this!” So I finally decided to try. Now I’m 20K from finishing book two!
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
I’ve been told my novel is easy to read with lots of action and enough sex to keep things interesting. Also, all of my reapers are HOT so you might not be so unhappy to meet them one day.
